OBSERVATION CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Date: 09.01.24

Grade: 1

Group of 17 children.

The aim of the class was to teach what a recipe is and how to carry it out. the student will know the necessary vocabulary related to cooking, the ingredients and how to follow the recipe step by step.

The topic of the lesson making a recipe: "fried rice"

In general, the class was very enjoyable, the students did their part, they were attentive most of the time and the objectives proposed by the teacher were met satisfactorily. If I could change anything about the class, it would be the materials, in some way, the use of technological resources would facilitate the attention, the dynamics and the students would find the class more fun.

The warm up: the teacher introduced the topic through a game of guess what I am doing and listen to the sound, what does it sound like, the students got engaged with the class and started to participate and started to get a little out of control and to loud, at some point the teacher had to remind them to raise their hand to speak and that we can't all speak at the same time, they listen and continue the lesson in order, the students had fun.

The teacher made good use of strategies to transition the class, explaining to the students what they are going to do in the whole class, what they are going to learn and what materials and activities are going to be carried out. It is important to recognise that he established a good use of Scaffolding to carry out the session, as well as using a lot of gestures and mime to explain the concepts. Most of the students paid attention except for one child, the teacher talked to him a couple of times, at one point she needed to take the student out of the classroom to talk to him and ask him what she could do for him, how she could help him, at the end she asked him to take a minute to drink water or go to the toilet and when he came back to the classroom to pay attention to the class.

What would I have done differently?

While the teacher had the necessary materials to run the session, the fact that a child doesn't stay interested in the class means that we have to find new ways to keep them entertained, I would have used technology, watching videos or interactive food games.
