OBSERVATION INSTRUCTIONS
Date: 17.01.24
Grade: 0
Group composed of 18 students, that day, 16 students attended. In this grade they have 12 formal hours of classes in English.
The objectives of the lesson were oriented towards reading and listening practice, the subject was a book named "fat cat on a mat".
At the beginning the teacher gathered everyone in a circle and in the simplest way, explained what they were going to do for the day (the objectives), using simple language and gestures to make the instructions accessible to young learners. in the first instance she explained the objective of the lesson and showed the cover and the name of the book to pupils (visuals as strategy).
Before the reading began, the teacher gave them clear instructions that, she would read for them and that they only had to listen, modeling the instructions. She also explained that if they had any doubts they should raise their hands, that she would allow time during the reading to ask questions and make predictions.
The pupils seemed to understand, but the teacher did not check whether the instructions were understood or not, however as time went on it could be seen that the pupils understood the instructions.
The teacher followed a logical sequence in giving instructions, starting with a general description of the activity and then giving step-by-step guidance on how to complete the following task after the reading time.
All the time, the teacher encouraged student participation by asking questions, inviting students to share their ideas, and the same time, students demonstrated their understanding of the instructions by responding appropriately to the teacher and participating in the activity.
Personally, I believe that the teacher demonstrated effective pedagogical practices during the listening - reading practice class. Instructions were clear, sequential and supported by modelling and reinforcement strategies. Students were engaged and actively participated in the activity, indicating a good understanding of the instructions provided, although the teacher did not check whether the instructions were clear or not. The teacher's use of visual aids and interactive techniques contributed to teaching effectiveness and fostered a positive learning environment.
