OBSERVATION TEACHER TALK- STUDENT TALK

 Date: 17.01.24

Grade: 2

Group composed of 16 students, that day, 13 students attended. In this grade they have 14 formal hours of classes in English.

The aim of the lesson was for the students to know and understand the vocabulary necessary to talk about machines. the theme of the lesson was “ learn about machines”.

For convenience and to achieve the objectives of the observation, two students, one very active and one less active, were selected to concentrate during the lesson.

In general, most of the students answer the questions the teacher asks, directly and indirectly, at least, in the observed session the teacher asked questions addressed to them by name or asked if anyone knew, in this case, open questions like do you know any kind of machines? At some point the teacher had to remind them to raise their hands, not just to speak all at the same time. On the other hand, a couple of students preferred to remain silent, but the teacher knew who they were and on more than one occasion, he asked them directly, specifying to the rest, remaining silent, that the question was only for this person.

In short, participation was good, the teacher paid equal attention to everyone, not just those who actively participated.

It is evident that the teacher knows his students and how the dynamics of the class work, he calls his students by name and knows their strengths and weaknesses, which allows him to adopt and work to develops their skills. By using a pleasant and friendly voice, the teacher creates trust between him and his students, thus promoting an environment where they can express themselves and ask questions and make mistakes naturally without being ignored or corrected in a negative way, in other words, not only he validates feelings, but also trains students to ask and answer questions without fear of feeling wrong.

The teacher corrects errors only when necessary, if there is one, he prefers to ask and create perspective on a general idea without pointing out anyone. Likewise praise when necessary.
